Barnet supplies nega-stat® P190 for innovative fibre rope solution
nega-stat® P190 is Barnet’s core-conducting bicomponent filament yarn that offers protection against static charges and the resulting potential discharges. nega-stat® P190 provides antistatic solutions in a wide range of technical applications, especially in situations where a permanent and full grounding is not possible.
The replacement of heavy and significantly high-maintenance steel ropes with fibre ropes represents a major innovation in the tower crane market. The unique advantages of fibre ropes compared to steel ropes are, less maintenance work , a 4 times longer service life, reduced weight and 20% higher load capacity. The #soLITE® fibre ropes from the well-known rope specialist #Teufelberger were developed together with #Liebherr, which already uses these hoisting ropes in their tower cranes. In practical application, it was found that the high frictional forces generated in operation of the tower crane generated static charge levels up to 20 kV.
The solution to this problem is provided by our patented antistatic bicomponent yarn #barnet #nega-stat® P190. Nega-Stat ® P190 is an antistatic core conducting multifilament yan , which enables an effective dissipation of the static charge in an unearthed environment and prevents uncontrolled discharges.
After intensive research and development work by #Teufelberger and #Liebherr in cooperation with #Barnet, the soLITE® fbre ropes have been serially equipped with the nega-stat® P190 multifilament yarn since August 2022.
A simulation of the service life validated the antistatic performance and reliability of the nega-stat® P190 filament yarn. These tests showed that the electrostatic charge could be limited to below 100 V for 40-60% of the service life of the fiber rope. After this time, the electrostatic charge was still well below the perception threshold. The service life of the fiber ropes is up to 10 years.
The development of the soLITE® fiber rope has resulted in a product that is characterized by high durability and exceptional antistatic performance.
