Spartanburg, SC / Aachen – After a 38 year career, Notker Schmid will be retiring effective September 30, 2022.

After a 38 year career with Cherotan Fibers and Barnet, Notker Schmid will be retiring effective September 30, 2022.  Notker joined his father at Cherotan Fibers in May 1984 and has served our company around the Barnet world.

Notker studied in Hamburg and graduated with his degree in Export Management in December 1983.   He started his career at Cherotan Fibers as the logistics and warehousing manager and was later responsible for implementation of the first computerized warehouse program.  When Barnet Europe was formed in 1994, Notker became the first Managing Director of Barnet Europe and led the organization until moving to Hong Kong in 2013 where he served as the Managing Director of Barnet Asia until very recently. Business is driven by relationships, and no one is better at creating relationships than Notker.  He has created relationships around the world which have provided and continue to provide growth opportunities for Barnet.  Notker has never met a stranger, and no part of the world has been out of bounds if he has seen an opportunity to do business.

During his tenure at Barnet Europe and Barnet Asia, Notker provided great leadership and the organizations have seen tremendous growth. With some, there may be a question about what they will do with their time in retirement.  With Notker, there is absolutely no question at all.  From nurturing his vineyard to collecting cars to playing golf and traveling the world, there is no doubt that Notker will be busy!
